INFORMATION
The Marlow House is a charming Victorian house built in 1887 located close to Marietta Square and is on the historic registry. The Marlow House was built by 37-year old Marietta resident, Miss Idelle Marlow. Miss Marlow married Newton Heggie of Augusta in 1890. Built as a rooming and boarding house, it provided a home and a steady income for Mrs. Heggie for 42 years. The house is a classic example of Victorian architecture with its gable roof, bay window and wrap-around porch. It was used as a boarding house, then apartments until the early 1880’s when it was renovated and opened as Marietta’s first Bed & Breakfast Inn. The house was renovated in 1985 and converted to use as a Special Events Facility and Bed & Breakfast Inn with three suites and two additional rooms. Periodic renovations have enhanced the main reception area as recently as 2000. There are 4 kitchens and 9 bathrooms in this 6,400 square foot house. The Marlow House is used exclusively for Special Events with an attached Art Gallery now, and is no longer a Bed and Breakfast. The house owners, Loretta David and Rebecca Rowden, strive to make every event a memorable occasion with emphasis on customer service and maintaining a beautiful venue. Loretta maintains the beautifully landscaped gardens and Rebecca specializes in customizing packages and planning to meet customer needs.
The property has been very well maintained and transformed into an ideal event facility with attention to flow control and optimum customer service while maintaining a beautiful atmosphere. The area upstairs now consists of the Bride’s Changing Room, the Marlow House Office and the residences of the Marlow House owners.
